Say No To Saravana Bhavan

Inspired by Keerthi's kumural, i follow suit.
If ever there was any brand that is hyped up beyond any rational proportion [price-quality-taste-quantity factor], it is Saravana Bhavan. In fact, they have taken the suckers [public] for a ride worldwide, and that's a travesty. Demonstrates the evil effects of propaganda. We even begin to think we like what we eat, what we eat is enough given the exorbitant price we pay for it. I am not included in this WE, thank you. I boycotted SB a long time back [i have had to go there twice or thrice since then due to unavoidable circumstances].
Parotta, the size of a poori, with a sole slice of carrot, a pesi-cap full of kurma is a sample for me and NOT something which can sate my hunger. I even asked the waiter once, "sample nalla irukku. Dish kondu vaanga". The paneer cubes are weapons of mass destruction, either when hurled or when consumed. The Man behid SB is behind bars, but still he manages to run his cartel. Lets put a stop to this.

P.S: Next on the list is Murugan Idly Kadai

  • They charge star hotel rates...
    Totallly disproportionate to their
    quality, quantity.
taste is ok. nothing great, not terribly bad either.

  • vasantha bavan is cheaper than SB and it deserves the cost, ie the taste is upto the price

they hav quite better scope to improvise, even now. Also in that process, they can ring a danger bell to SB, thus forcing them indirectly to recude price......yes, iam a fan of SB!

  • I last went to Sorundara Buggers for breakfast on my visa interview day - in my entire lifetime I have never paid Rs.39 for a breakfast!! The sidenote is that I still felt hungry.

  • PK,
Exactly. As if their pricing and quantity were not bad enough, its irritating when you hear people saying "Quality na SB dhaan.."

    Keerthi,
VB is not as bad as SB

  • Absolutely agree.I was shocked when a plate of cutlet's each the size of a tea spoon was charged 22/- per plate.Daylight robbery,I have owed never to set my foot into that place

  • My husband too complained about the Std of SB now. But people like us who are not aware of the other new/better hotels, we might end up going (safely!) to the usual place. So, you should list down places that are good too! And abroad, I don't think they are run by the same management. Even otherwise we don't have much choice!!

  • Way to go. Coming from Ooty I never understood the Chennaites' almost religious attitude towards Saravana Bhavan. I came up with a hundred different theories, but nothing ever was satisfactory.

There are so many nominally priced, clean restaurants in Chennai with far superior service.

Thank god there are others who realise that......
