Off To Afghanistan

Has anyone considered applying for emigration to a province in Afghanistan, which still continues to be a Taliban strangle-hold. Contrary to popular belief, students can wear scarves in shools and colleges [if at all any student or school exist], citizens don't need to take a Brit.. opps, sorry Afghanistan loyalty test, there is no Patriot Act to be passed, and hold your breath - premarital safe-sex and speaking about it is totally accepted. Well, OK that's a bit too much. Hey, at least the Taliban never claimed to have a constitution which guaranteed the freedom of speech and expression. Whatever you accuse them of, you can't accuse them of hypocrisy. Here, maybe i can get away with almost anything by virtue of being a male, but who knows? Wearing black colored boxer briefs or signing in English might soon cause some section of the Tamil Nadu populace to feel that it offends Tamil culture. Out there, women are treated as objects and are oppressed and told so in as many words about their standing. They aren't given rhetorical hot wind about equal rights and the ancient Tamil tradition of upholding women's rights and hounded for speaking their mind. Food might be a problem but one might manage to find some bread crumbs and when it gets really worrysome, there's always some embargo and precision bombed carcasses to feast on. You can't ask for the moon, you know. The gift horse shan't be looked in the mouth. Thank you, Uncle Sam - i owe you one.
I don't know if they heard about electricity in those parts, [computers? How much is a kilo?] but you can still have hopes of continuing my blogging through your grandchildren, God [U.S] willing.

If the whole film fraternity can't afford to stand up for Kushboo and Suhasini, what can one say? What Arundhati Roy declared after the Pokhran tests rings true even to this day, though the context is totally different, especially in light of the pounding the two actresses have been subjected to.

Perhaps both of them would relate to Arundhati's words:

If protesting against having a nuclear bomb implanted in my brain is anti-Hindu and anti-national, then I secede. I hereby declare myself an independent, mobile republic. I am a citizen of the earth. I own no territory. I have no flag. I'm female, but have nothing against eunuchs. My policies are simple. I'm willing to sign any nuclear non-proliferation treaty or nuclear test ban treaty that's going. Immigrants are welcome. You can help me design our flag

  • Good one A_A though you will understand that I would have liked it if anyone other than Arundathi Roy&of course the likes of Prakash karat,Jyothi basu,Harkishen singh Surjeet,N.Ram had been quoted. :)

  • Karuthu Suthanthiram irupathal thaan, Kushbu and Suhasini are able to talk like this. Talking about pre-marital and safe sex is not at all objected, but blabbering "no educated man could expect his partner to be a virgin." and dragging the tamil community in this matter is highly condemned.

  • Cinefan,
    :)
Taking exception, objecting to or differing from statements a person is making ON THE MERIT of the statement is one thing, throwing WHATEVER a person is saying is another thing altogether. It is my humble request for you to consider reading some of Arundhati Roy's [forget the lefties] books/articles with an open mind. She is not a blind cong/commie sympathizer. Let's say you don't agree with her views on let's say for e.g Kashmir-fine. But to dismiss anything she says should be avoided, IMO.

  • Cellvi,
"no educated man could expect his partner to be a virgin."
She was talking about today's urban young generation. If you disagree, you have the freedom to express your objection by speaking, writing, boycotting her movies or by whatever other democratic means possible. Slapping a case which has no legal basis is just bullshit.
Talking about Tamil community, i'm ashamed at the bad name given to my community by the jokers like PMK/DP, brromstick wielding ladies etc... They don't represent me in any way. I, as a Tamil am in no way offended by Kushboo or Suhasini.

  • Bala,
Nah,I don't have a closed mind.I agree with what she says on quite a lot of issues.

At the same time,I feel she is prejudiced against certain ppl, organizations&issues.

Anyway let's leave it at that, everyone has their biases incl you&me.

  • BTW, i did manage to get a D-stand ticket but it might just go waste :(

By Blogger Bala (Karthik), at Mon Nov 21, 02:32:00 PM

  • It got wasted. Not even bad, this should be lousy luck.

Are they going to refund the money? Then, only the 'extra'you paid to the blackmarketeer will be the loss.

This means that the series becomes very tight.Whoever wins the next will ensure the series is not lost.

  • Yeah fucked-up luck... Don't understand why our wise administrators always screw things up by keeping matches during Oct-Nov every year in Chennai. Venues like Delhi, Lucknow etc should not even be considered as test centers....

By Blogger Bala (Karthik), at Tue Nov 22, 06:26:00 PM

  • Even I have been wondering about it.

    2003 NOV-ODI in Chennai,Ind VS NZ-washed away.

    2004 NOV(???)-Test at Chennai,Ind VS Aus-Exciting last day's play washed out.

    2005 NOV-ODI Ind VS SA-washed out.

    Nov-le chennai-le vekkadeengappa match-e.

BTW,looks like TNCA is refusing to refund, what's happening?

By Anonymous Cinefan, at Thu Nov 24, 10:52:00 AM

  • 2004 Ind-Aus was in Ocober last week but anyway as a rule, Oct Nov -la match Chennai la vekkakoodadhu.

"BTW,looks like TNCA is refusing to refund, what's happening?"
    Therila... kaasu appeaattu!

By Blogger Bala (Karthik), at Thu Nov 24, 03:31:00 PM

  • I agree with u Bala, kandippa Oct Nov -le match chennaila vaikkakoodathu, and they should also think about refunding atleast 50% of the amount if the match was not held.
I think the pblm is that TNCA is not printing seperate tickets for complimentary and passes. Infact I got 25 free tickets which were printed Rs.500/- and Rs.700/-. Appuram eppadi avanga refund kodupanga. Intha confusionai TNCA avoid pannanum.
