nAdi jOsiyam

A few years back, i visited a nAdi jOsiyar in chinna kAnchIpuram. All i had to do was give my thumb print and wait while he started the process of shortlisting my Olaichuvadi from a set of bundles through elimination, based on my answers to a few "basic" questions. He was very accurate in giving out my personal/family details and almost every significant fact about my life till then. About the future, it is/was a mixed bag. While some of the predictions were/are true, a few were "generic"/open-ended enough to be interpreted in any wishful manner (one important prediction turned out to have factual inaccuracies, actually) and the veracity of a few will have to found out in the future. How in the world can one explain this whole "thing"?

P.S: Arguments like "It's all guesswork", "he just gets the facts from your answers", "he already knows about you when you go there" are meaningless.

    bala,
I havent tried this one yet. But many strongly recommended this. Even the person who taught the *basics of astrology* to me, strongly recommended this and asked me to go to *Vaitheeshwaran temple*.

this is what I have heard about this : Again I am not too sure whether it is true or not.. it is upto u to take it.

when I asked my mentor how they can predict everything that happened just with our thumb impression.. what he told was... the great agasthiyar had written the things related to every person already (!) in many olaichuvadis. they just choose the OC related to our thumb impression. (again, logically this looks like a comedy.. but avanga sollura details ketta konjam namba thaan vendi irukku )

reg their guess work on future,
they will update u only on what will happen in ur current MAHA DASHA. For e.g., u r in GURU MAHA DASHA now , then they will give info on what will happen in that MD . ie.., 2007 + 16 = 2023 (assuming that GURU MD just started for u )

I have to go to vaitheeshwaran temple.. during that time, i will check with it and update u :) :)

P.S: one of my friends reflected ur thoughts only when he tried it out :)

  • Aha! You have asked an unanswerable question.

  • bala, did you fix an appointment with him? Is it possible he did a Background Check on you :-)
THat he got the past right but not the future seems to me to indicate towarrds that - no offence to anyone but if the nadi tells you about past but not the future, it is pretty much useless isnt it?

  • bala,

enna thideernu astrology !! and why sudden post? did anything he said happened?!

i encountered with a lady palmstry 1 year ago, splecialist, for me too, whatever she said abt past was correct and what she said abt future did not happen!

  • Actually my experience with astrologers of the horoscope variety has always been that when they do get it right, it is generally about the past. And atleast a couple of them have actually said things about facets/travails of my life, which no one else knows...But future prediction is a bit of sothappal only...I don;t understand how it works and am pretty skeptical about josiyars..but to get the past right now that is no small or mean thing....Being a physics student, can't resisit quoting Niels Bohr, who said,
"Prediction is always difficult especially about the future.." :)

  • In April this year when we went on a piligrimage trip towards Thanjavur/Kumbakonam,we did the same thing for my wife(Vaithesswaran Koil)He got the past right while the future predictions are awaited :)

BTW,the person who read out her 'nadi'was a christian with kumkumam on his forehead&an idol of a 'devi'.He started&ended the session with a 'namaskaram'for the God.

And raj,we didn't take an appointment. We finished the darshan of Shiva in Vaitheeswaran kovil&on the spur of the moment entered his office/shop.

  • cinefan,
    thanks for the info :)

reg, not predicting the future and predicting the past.. I read in one astrology book that

"Life is like a dense forest with no light. Astrology is just a candle to cross that forest. It can tell u what might happen based on how much it can guess (the reach of candle light). Rest is with GOD :) otherwise, astrologers wont ask us to surrender to GOD"
    (strictly IMHO).

and many speak about nostradamus and his predictions. :) :) they will tell u suddenly that he had already written about 9/11 attacks only after the *occurrence of that incident*. future la nadakka poratha ella oru guess work thaan pannuvaanga (correct me if i am wrong)

  • Selva,
Yeah i heard about the Agasthiyar angle. We may joke about it all we want but we can't fight the results, can we? :)

And A_A pathi ellam sollala :p

    MSP,
To quote Vaigaippuyal, "adha therinjikka thAne nAi mAri alayarEn" :)

    There you go :)

    Sakala,
No particular trigger for this post. And about predictions, i will have to wait a while, like i said in my post :)
Palmistry, astrology, horoscope - these are more generic and open-ended compared to nAdi jOsiyam.

    Sridhar,
Right! It's easy for astrology apologists to get away with astrology of the horoscope kind than the nAdi jOsiyam kind...
    This is virtually "binary"

  • bala,

let me see naadi josiyam for a 12th student,

    the past:

1, he must have passed 10th, 11th etc..
2, he must be attending some coaching classes..
    3. he must have fell in love at some point in his life so far..

    the future:

    1.. some professional course
    2.. @#$%@%^^^$^
    3.. @$^%#&%$*8

also, seeing a HC vijay fan, we can easily tell that he is not a big fan of classic foreign movies and telugu movies..

there are like 12 kinds of raasis..
similarily, for diff kind of persons, there can be corresponding olais.. the max no of diff kind of olais can be say 1000.. from the answers u give, josiyars may shortlist u into a group among this 1000..

the accuracy that can be achieved using these techniques maybe around 20 to 30%.. people who got it wrong wont publicise the news.. they will say,
    1. innoru nalla josiyaraa paakanum..
    2. chumma vilayaaatukku thaane paathom..

but when an atheist like u gets to see his past matching to an extent,
he cant be silent.. he will give gud publicity..

even i was fascinated by this naadi josiyam.. thought abt these points, my perception changed a bit.. maybe its not as difficult/miraculous as it seems to be..

  • The fact that Nadi josiyam can accurately "see" the past is because it (i.e,"the past") has already happened and cannot "change" BUT predicting the future is a kind of "projection" based on current conditions (like we calculate projected score in cricket based on current r/r). It depends on various various factors and mostly is dependent on individual will.
