Mozhi

Much better than the Munnabhai series. Good entertainment. Definitely watchable more than once.

P.S 1: Vidhyasagar's score is, for a good part of the movie, very decent. Talking about VS, i wonder if there is anything wrong in using WCM composed by the greats in re-recording? Can you imagine 2001 without "Also sprach Zarathustra", a Sindhu Bhairavi without "Mahaganapathim" or a quintessential Scorsese film without classic rock? Yeah, there's the question of credit but ......

P.S 2: Some women spell 'mozhi' as 'molli' here. I mean, 'moli' is atleast understandable but 'molli'???

  • Easily one of the best movie of 2k7. Good that PrakashRaj is producing decent entertainers like this.PrakashRaj was terrific in this movie and his timing was simply superb especially the proposal scene."Mark My Words" M.S.Bhaskar would go places :)) . Other notables are Brihmanandam , Prithiviraj and swarnamalya. Vidyasaagar has done a very good some esp kaatrin song.

  • Balaji,
Prakash Raj was very good and M.S Bhaskar was terrific, as usual (reminded me of one of my eccentric but 'mandai' professors)
Prithviraj - ivara yen Tamil la innum nadikka veikkaranga??? vera aal kedaikkaliya?

    Thilak,
    yen??

    Feddy,
    idhu peter-e illa!
Infact, these people neither know Tamil nor English.. hence these atrocious spellings..

  • @Bala,
Jothika, cheesy love story, no character development like Prithvi raj's, cliched supporting characters.

On a lighter side, I liked Prakash raj's characters for the dialogues. From his mokkai to the really funny lines. It was good.

  • The movie is a "Good Entertainer". songs were big Mokkai and proved to be mere SPEED BREAKERS !

Apart from that, the movie is great in every aspect. Every one have done their job well.

Agree with Thilak - cheesy stuff and weak character progression. Actually the movie very similar to Azhagiya Theeyae. Both movies make up for these defects with competent acting, and having a nice and clean setting that most middle class losers imagine themselves living in. There are so few clean entertainers that family folks can watch these days - obviously this movie scores big in that respect.Even though her Muzhi is under control thankfully, once again see is unimpressive - thank you lady for quitting. Allo, did anyone notice any Tamizhan in the movie. Allo, where is Vivek these days ? Hope Jivaji breaks the jinx for him. Lots of cliched imagery - church scene - Nancyyy ;-)

    Bala,
I didn't understand point about VS's music. Repeatu please.

  • Thilak/BNB,
The humor running through the movie compensates for the other shortcomings. A very good option for timepass.
What exactly do you mean by character 'progression'?

    Selva,
I liked the "Sevvanam" song and the other Jayachandran song...

    BNB,
VS's music: Of late, VS seems to bring in Western Classical Music (WCM) increasingly in his background scores. In Ponniyin Selvan, the title music (which is a motif) is a famous piece- don't remember which and whose composition it is. The score in Mozhi also gives scope for WCM (protagonists are players). He has also used Harry Belafonte and a violin jazz-piece.
For me, using WCM pieces in re-recording works because of the timelesness of these classics and the adaptability of that music into different situations - Clockwork Orange/Beethoven etc...

Agreed it is good time pass - a rare one at that which family folks can watch. Sharp contrast with the trash that kodambakkam churns out.

Character buildpuppu/progression - using the bulb to show love build-uppu might be funny, but betray's the inability to script a good story. Alternately being funny and serious seems to suggest the same failure again.

If composers use WCM or ECM shouldn't they acknowledge it on screen ? Nothing wrong, though I would prefer their own stuff and I am pretty sure the copyrights on a lot of these compositions have expired.
