First Round to Man U

History SCREAMS that teams that play out an entire half sitting back and defending, lose more often than not and it was proved again tonight :(
[The irony is that Man U themselves have been on the receiving end of late goal defeats/draws this season in the EPL]
TV paathuttu karutha solra enakke theriyudhu, indha coach-galukku yen vilanga mattengudhu?
Milan paid for their complacency. Gilardino's only contribution in the game was to win a free-kick and Kaka, though brilliant in the 1st half disappointed in the 2nd, barring the two occasions he came close to scoring. "Big daddy" Maldini and "Bull Terrier" Gattuso were sorely missed after the breather. Ronaldo, Rooney and Scholes sizzled. That injury time throw-in gifted away by Borchi - will that be the defining moment? San Siro la paappom

P.S: What a goal that was by Kaka (1st) - the burst of pace! If only....

  • In San siro, Milan 1-0 Man utd. Milan should play a tactical game And quite possibly 2-0 if they get a good counter. I don't want Man utd in the finals, no matter what!!!! But they deserved to win yesterday.

Kaka proves his brilliance yet again. Not just in this game, but through out the tournament. He deserves to win UCL winners medal!! While Rooney shows he can be a one-day wonder.

  • Hi all,
i wish MAN U goes on to win the coveted trophy.i am a big fan of Man U coz they paly aggressive and positive futobol rather than all those dull italian teams.i dont know whymany ppl are hating Man U.if u guys say the goal of KAKA supreb what about the Rooney's clincher.

Finals : MAN U Vs Liverpool

    Man U - 3-1

  • @Rajesh,
I hate Man utd because I'm an Arsenal fan. As simple as that :)

I hate English football for its crossing and sloppy game. No question that It's entertaining. English players are overrated. On the positive side, English teams have good team spirit and they fight to win.

Italian footballers are more talented, skilled but as a team, they play tactical football. They don't wanna loose the game at hand. So they play defensive.

Not just the goal, Kaka is an extraordinary player. No wonder that he is the top scorer. He has been exceptional in UCL, add Ronaldo,Scholes and Rooney's goal tally and assists, it would be lesser than Kaka's. And he is just an attacking midfielder. Considering Italian's style of play, it's phenomenal.

But yeah..Rooney's goal was pretty good. Man utd deserve to win EPL this year. For Kaka's skill, I would like to see him lift the UCL trophy. He deserves it.

    CNN IBN covers it. ok.

But they have a hard time telling apart BangArappa and BangAru LaxmAn (at 0.35).

Little matter that one is former Karnataka CM playing skip hop jump, presently in SP. And the other is from the BJP whom the alliance is fightingh against in UP.

    Leader from South all same.

If JJ hadn't spokem Hindi, they'd have a hard time telling JJ and Chandrababu Naidu apart I guess.

    :)

    Ferrari,
Kalakkitteenga! Thanks for the links :)

    Thilak,
"Milan should play a tactical game"
They sure won't be playing the tactical game in the 2nd half.
They are heavily dependent on Kaka for the creativity and openings. I have a lot of respect for Pirlo and Seedorf was good but he's lost a yard of pace...

    Rajesh,
Italian teams are always underrated. Even before the world cup, not many gave them a chance. Come on, Milan have quality written all over them.

    msp,
Forget Bangaru Lakshman or Kangaroo Lakshman, they don't even get our states and language right :)

  • Hi,

Pratap - i do agree the english players are more over rated by the press and media but it doesnt mean that if those English clubs plays well u shudnt appreciate their intense futbol.i guess u do know how the italians claimed the penalty againt Aus' in the knock out game.they are masters in sliding and they do practise a lot for sliding to claim penalty.i wud watch Man U vs Ars rather AC milan Vs Inter.See ppl now a days dont watch any slow tactical futbol but for good aggressive and attacking style of futbol.

Karthik - i am not sayin Milan doesnt have the quality but their style of play is bit boring when compared to Man U.Yes,agreed that Man U has not won as many CL titles but they have started to do well consisitently.hope they win this time.

btw, what happened to Ajax which was one of my fav. team in mid 90's with all the yout power namely (Kluivert, seedorf, davids, boer brothers and the finnish striker)

  • Bala,
Yes..They won't play a tactical game unless they get the first goal. In San Siro, the pitch is not proportional, it's little weird and tailor made for Milan's flexible formation. Pirlo and Seedorf(if he plays in middle and not in the wings) can play in tandem covering the midfield and their positional sense is amazing. In Old trafford, Seedorf was a bit rusty and looked uncomfortable. Except when he controlled the loft and the eventually picking out Kaka, there you got a goal. Thats what Seedorf is all about. But yeah, he used to do it consistently when Shevchenko played. Gillardino 'mundam' came with a big hype and proved he isn't a 'replacement'. Inzaghi is okay but he is inconsistent. He plays with a lot of passion though.

BTW looks like Man utd-Chelsea final from the first round...Damn!!!

anga yaaru panel? Sky sports? Anda Panel madiri varadu!!!
Inga John dykes and co - Mundamaari pasanga.

    Rajesh,

Ada neenga Pratap-nu sonna udanaey, scrolled up and checked for the name. Funny that I often forget its a part of my name..Yenaku pidicha madiri Thilak-nu koopudunga, illa Selva kumar-nu koopudunga :)

Yeah, would prefer Man-utd - Arsenal over Milan derby for all the obvious reasons. But in UCL or any international tournament, it would be fun to watch Italian/Spanish/English teams facing each other..

Ajax had* the best youth academy of all the football clubs. You missed out Dennis bergkamp and Marc overmars (Arsenal thala). Dennis had the distinction of playing with Van basten, Ronald Koeman and Frank Rijkaard. He became the ultimate 'messiah' when he switched to English football. But the undisputed king of Ajax has to be Cryff. Basten and Bergkamp complete the holy trinity of both Ajax and Dutch football over different generations. They were all different kinds of players. JC is a great dribbling striker and a part of "Total Football", while MVB is a conventional striker, DB was a playmaker with great first touch and good vision. Coming to the recent strikers, A good finisher like Ruud van nistelrooy or the young talent like Robin van persie couldn't match that. I didn't include Kluivert as his career is pretty much over. Lets wait for RVP, Van der vaart, Dirk kuyt and the other kids. Being a fan of Dutch football, I am waiting for the next big star.

On why Ajax lost its power and prowess these days. Because it used to have this continuous inflow of talent to match its outflow. Thats where it lacks now. It has already sold Van der vaart and its a matter of time before Sneijder leaves. Unlike those days, PSV and Feyenoord has picked up both in performance and in producing talented kids. The very fact that they brought back Jaap Stam and Edgar davids should answer that.

    * - Barcelona has produced good talents recently.

I missed out Laudrup when talking about best Ajax players. From his Real madrid archive videos, I can safely say he is one of the best talents. I think he joined Ajax a bit later in his career. Anyway one of my favorites. Can't afford to miss.

    Apologize for the digression :)

  • Hi Pratap,

sorry to call u again by that name.
you ve rekindled my Ajax memories and thanks a lot for that.i have seen all those players mentioned above play the knid of futbol which is missing now a days.u know what i mean.FLAIR.yeah, JC is another footballer who deserved a world cup winner medal.when u talk about DB i can not forget the goal he scored against ARG in 98'.also i like the 88 and 90 Dutch team which played perfect futbol.

Another team i like at this momnet is Barca which has got so many players who can turn the game on their own.

  • hey people,
Pls watch Lionel Messi's goal against Getafe..its stunning to say the least, deserves the comaparison with the famous goal from GOD - Diego Maradona against England in 1986 considered to be the best ever goal.Messi truly deserves the adulation.
    pls dont miss it..

    LOL
    "Black PearLLLLLLL pa.. black pearLLLLL"

    Rajesh/Thilak,
    Good old Oranje nostalgia..
The Dutch league is interestingly poised now... like The Spanish..
I hated the Ducth at this world cup, especially Van Persie... azhuguni aattam to the core. Wonder why only the Italians/Portuguese are singled out.

Bergkamp - what a champ he was. He scored a stunning goal for the Gunners which was featured as the best goal in many countdowns... forgot the year and the match..
And Robben looks like the new Overmars - blistering pace and super-light feet.

    Anon,
Yeah that was a GREAT goal but still short of the '86 Maradona magic, i would say. They come only once :)

By Blogger Bala (Karthik), at Fri Apr 27, 06:35:00 PM

  • Rajesh,

Yes, Not just Cruyff but the old Dutch team always had 'Flair'. But not anymore...

    Anon,

Nope! Diego's goal was harder because the then English defenders, Peter Reid and Terry butcher are much better than Getafe's defence. Peter Shilton?? one of the best goalkeepers from England couldn't stop Deigo's goal either. DM's goal deserves the 'goal of the century' tag. In the same vein, Thierry henry's goal against Spurs, Inter and Real madrid has shown his dribbling skills. You should check them out. Of course Titi has few volleys and long range goals. Seri seri, No more Arsenal bias :)) Messi is a talented kid. I'm a big fan. But highly Injury prone. Actually the goal seemed to be a deja-vu, should agree. There are many good solo goals. Robinho's goal for Santos, handful of Ronaldo's goals, Zizou goals and even Ronaldinho's solo effort for PSG can't match Deigo. He is/will always be the eternal thala

    Bala,

YESH..Missed out Robben..When we talk about the current squad. It's a crime to miss him. Robben has the terrific speed and ball control like Overmars.

That goal from DB10 was against Newcastle in 2001-2002 season. And there are two great goals against Leicester. His goals have always had that stamp of the Iceman. It has this terrific first touch which sets up the goal. Besides ,the great man is known for his assists. A complete 'Playmaker'. Ahellam oru kAlam. No wonder that Arsenal miss him and from Titi's injury, they have struggled.

"I hated the Ducth at this world cup, especially Van Persie... azhuguni aattam to the core. Wonder why only the Italians/Portuguese are singled out."

Ada-da..Van persie is Gunners singa kutti..So no comments. LOL But yeah, I agree about the over emphasis on Italians and Portugese while dutch players like Ruud, Robben, ahem Van Persie (vidunga OthukalAm)..love to dive when they get a chance. Avanga mattum illa..French kid Ribery, brazilians, Riquelme, Joaquin, etc..too many to list. Why the focus on Italians and Portugese! maybe because they are 'habitual Divers'.
