Raise Your Hands

Do you abhor/hate
  • coffee shops (not our tea kadai. I meant Coffee Day, Barrista, Mocha, Moocha etc)
  • the pay and wait scheme followed in places like coffee shops, fast food joints, Sathyam theatre etc?
  • ordering starters before lunch/dinner?
  • hotels/joints serving chatni and sambar in cups?
  • north indies eating thosai, idly and vadai with a spoon?
  • wearing collared T-shirts or T-shirts with company logo on Friday?
  • people urging others to dance in parties, official and otherwise?
  • people who say they drink but who stop with a single blue-colored cocktail?
  • going to shopping malls not to shop but "chumma, just like that"?
  • brahmin men and women dressing, talking and behaving like North Indies, especially in weddings?
  • people who think sex and violence in movies are bad and conversely, any movie without sex and violence is good?
  • young urbane men who litter their English sentences liberally with "machaan" and "da", pronouncing them in a totally 'peter' way?

If you answered yes for most of the questions, you are in elite company! We are special

  • It's Machaa(n) or Machaa; or, even Mochaa with a Bengali touch. Plain 'machaan' isn't urban enough, machaa!

  • Count me in. I just hate it when these morons go on like 'What da, this da, that da'. And bulls eye on the wedding observation. Madras veyyil la sherwani ellam thevaya?

  • Yes sir!(like giving attendance)

  • 1.Never understood what was special in Coffee Day, Barrista, Mocha, Moocha except that the prices were for the ambience and poor taste of cofee.

    2. Pay and wait scheme looks like you are a poor boy waiting for your free government sponsored meal though you have paid.

and I eat idli with my bare hands ;-)

  • zero,
Yes, i meant to write 'machaa(n)' only :)

"even Mochaa with a Bengali touch"
    LOL

    Prabhu,
    Vaango vaango!

    Thilak,
"You may take your sit"! :))

    Vishal,
    1) Exactly :)
I get all fidgety when i'm in a coffe shop :)
    2) Yes and a simple process is made complicated for everyone.

  • What did the Gound say about Dei, Indha Kaiyya thookara pazhakkam ...

I disagree with one or two points like starters before meals - pasiya irundha, I have been known to nibble at the flowers and sedi/kodi in the potted plants that some restaurants mistakenly think serve a decorative purpose.

So, Oru Auto driver OR Nai aiming for lamp post style-la naan kaala thookaren

"brahmin men and women dressing, talking and behaving like North Indies, especially in weddings?"

BTW Norhies don't thosai and vadai...they eat Dosa and vada....

  • bala,
I 'yegree' for 90% of points.

    1. chutney/sambar in cups:
Useful thaan. If the mixture doesnt taste good, then savour them separately

    2. Spoon for idli:
    If sambhar/chutney is too watery.

I've never been to a coffeeshop. Pay Rs.40 for a coffee?? I'd rather buy a cow for that money :p

  • I hate Rajini fans who talk about about Logic! Oh Brother!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Wed Apr 11, 07:55:00 AM

  • Additionally, I hate it when boys (and some girls) sprinkle "da"s liberally while conversing with girls. I quiver from head to foot when it happens to me.

Violence in movies is not bad. :P

By Blogger Viji, at Wed Apr 11, 09:38:00 AM

  • //people urging others to dance in parties, official and otherwise?//- This is the worst of the lot!

By Blogger Viji, at Wed Apr 11, 09:39:00 AM

  • TTM,
    1) The same can be achieved without cups :)
    2) Debatable

"I'd rather buy a cow for that money :p"
    LOL

    Kamal saar,
"I hate Rajini fans who talk about about Logic! Oh Brother!"

    Succinct is verbose for terse.
I hate Rajini fans - End of discussion!

    Viji,
"I hate it when boys (and some girls) sprinkle "da"s liberally while conversing with girls"
Amaam amaam... andha list-la add girls calling boys "pa..." !!!!!

  • Saravana bhavan nethu ponaen. Ordered Idli and dosai. Indha post nyabagam vandichu! 'Plain' Dosai was like a wafer-thin-paper. It was good but hardly a snack. SB sucks!

Yedhikra irukura Domino's pizza poi irukkalam! Aana anga kai kaluvaama sapidanum!

By Blogger ., at Wed Apr 11, 03:11:00 PM

  • Thilak,
You have committed a cardinal sin. Please repent and make a pledge not to repeat it and join "Agila Indhia Saravana Bhavan Ozhippu Mayyam" and wash away the sin :)

By Blogger Bala (Karthik), at Thu Apr 12, 12:15:00 AM

  • Bala,

"Agila Indhia Saravana Bhavan Ozhippu Mayyam"
    -LOL!

yeah, HSB is hyped like McDonald's of Tamil nadu. McDonald pathi no idea :)

Coffee Day, Barrista, Mocha, Capsicola are fighting a cold war to claim supremacy and proved to be true Starbucks-wannabe(adhu pathiyum onnum theriyadu) as in they keep shooting the prices to sky height. "80 Rs Barrista blast" illa "60 roobai Coffee day mockha" vangura alavukku paisa yenga irukku.

Nair tea kadai madhiri varadhu - Sour grapes for fox strategy.

By Blogger ., at Thu Apr 12, 05:24:00 PM

  • thilak,
How much are the SB dacoits charging now?

been to MacD(first and last) in india in 2001. Rs 45 for french fries. I think the cost includes the kind of clientele you get(or rather FORCED!) to watch! clientele could have been better if not the food :)

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Sat Apr 14, 09:28:00 AM

  • slightly late but... ulleyn ayya!
